Good to know:
Picnics are, by nature, a carefree, casual meal.
Picnics can be as elaborate or as simple as you like. Start with the
basket itself: Try an upscale rattan or bamboo picnic basket. Transport wine and
cheese in an insulated picnic cooler or in a specially-crafted picnic wine
backpack to keep both appropriately chilled.
When it comes time to pack your picnic, what belongs better in your basket?
Picnics can be nutritious. A crisp, hearty salad stands up with style to a
picnic scene. Baguette of French bread or Italian bread, Cuban bread, Jewish
rye, or other favorite. Cheeses such a Camembert, Brie, Swiss, Canadian strong
cheddar, goat cheese, or other ethnic favorites. Sausages come in a large
variety of flavors and nationality brands (make sure they need no cooking).
Wines can be varied. You could bring one bottle of red Bordeaux or Beaujolais or
white Chardonnay or white Briolo.
