How do I select a fireplace screen to fit my fireplace?
Folding fireplace screens:
Folding fireplace screens are designed to sit in front of the fireplace on the hearth and
should overlap the sides by at least one inch. For wood burning, your screen
should be 3 or 4 inches taller than the opening. For gas logs, it is OK for the screen to be
even with the top of the fireplace. The measurements of the paneled fireplace screens are given when the screen
is flat. Therefore, when it is standing you will lose 6-12” in the bend of the
sides. So, if the opening of your fireplace is 40” wide, you would select a
fireplace screen that is 46-52” wide or 6-12” wider than your opening. This will
allow for ample bend of the screens’ side panels.
Single or Flat Panel Screens:
Ideally, a single panel fireplace screen should be at least 1" wider on each side of the
opening as well as 1" taller.
