Good to know:
A beautiful fireplace is a natural focal point of the room and it should be dressed up and looking its best. Fireplace Screens provide an effective barrier to sparks and safeguard children and pets. At the same time a beautiful fireplace screen can be an important decorative accent. You'll find hinged folding screens and single piece standing screen on legs, in tempered glass or wire mesh, in styles ranging from ornate Victorian to antique to contemporary. To recreate the old-world fireside elegance when choosing fireplace screens and tools, avoid refined finishes such as polished brass. Instead, opt for a pewter finish or the hefty look of wrought iron. To bring the classic look to your home, chose a formal fireplace screen.
How do I select a fireplace screen to fit my fireplace?
Folding fireplace screens:
Folding fireplace screens are designed to sit in front of the fireplace on the hearth and
should overlap the sides by at least one inch. For wood burning, your screen
should be 3 or 4 inches taller than the opening. For gas logs, it is OK for the screen to be
even with the top of the fireplace. The measurements of the paneled fireplace screens are given when the screen
is flat. Therefore, when it is standing you will lose 6-12” in the bend of the
sides. So, if the opening of your fireplace is 40” wide, you would select a
fireplace screen that is 46-52” wide or 6-12” wider than your opening. This will
allow for ample bend of the screens’ side panels.
Single or Flat Panel Screens:
Ideally, a single panel fireplace screen should be at least 1" wider on each side of the
opening as well as 1" taller.

Fireplace Tools and Accessories:
Fireplace Andirons: An iron bar used to hold logs in a fireplace, sometime
called firedog.
Andirons come in a variety of styles and finishes.
Fireplace Fenders also called "rails". Fenders are foot rests set on the
hearth across the front of the firebox.
Fireplace
Tool Set: A set of tools made specifically to maintain a well-burning wood
fire. Often,
fireplace tools complement or match their corresponding fireplace screen.
Fireplace Tool Set Stand stores and keeps all your tools together.
Fireplace poker is used for arranging burning logs and a pair of fireplace
tongs - for picking up pieces of wood.
A long-handled shovel and brush are also useful for cleaning out cold ashes
from a spent fire.
Wood Baskets are an attractive way to keep a supply of wood right at your
hearth. Wood
Holders coordinate with fireplace tool sets and fireplace screens.
